What’s Your Bike Score? Or the Neighborhood You’re Thinking of Living In?
Each year there’s more and more people who use the bicycle as a means of transport – for commuting, shopping, getting to school or for recreation. Fizber.com launched a new service that rates locations for their bikeability.
Miami Beach, FL November 21, 2007 — Fizber.com announces the addition of a Bike Score to their for-sale-by-owner home listings. Similar to Drive Score, Bike Score shows a map of what establishments are in a property’s neighborhood and calculates a Bike Score based on the number of places within a convenient cycling distance.
Bike Score is Fizber.com’s new service that rates locations for their bikeability. Users are to type in an address, choose Bike Score in the settings and Bike Score will look for destinations within a within a comfortable bike ride’s distance of that location. It maps the closest grocery store, restaurant, and several other businesses people might ride a bike to from any address in the United States.
“Bike Score calculates the distance to the closest business in each of a list of commonly used categories such as grocery stores, restaurants, and coffee shops, assigns points based on the distance to these amenities, and then averages the score,” says Julia Foster, Fizber.com’s PR Manager. “So if you are moving to a new location look into Bike Score to find your new home.”
Riding a bike – whether for fun, sport or transport is a healthy way to get around. And improving health is one of the main reasons people try cycling. Biking to work is safe, enjoyable and good for both people who do cycling and the community. “Insanely useful service,” says Maureen L., a regular Fizber.com user. “I live in SE Corvallis. Score is 80, which is pretty accurate. It’s a good neighborhood for biking. You can use a bike to commute to work and get to errands. It is safe and enjoyable. And what’s more, a bicycle can be parked just about anywhere, so no more expensive car park bills.”
