Doing home staging and using fake furniture does have its place in giving a prospective buyer an idea of how their furniture will fit in a room. But it doesn’t convey the warmth and “hominess” most buyers are looking for (and expecting) when they enter a home for the first time.

Sometimes it’s better to borrow a few pieces of furniture from family or friends instead of potentially shocking a home buyer with something they were not at all expecting to see.

As a stager it is my job to prepare the home in such a way that the buyers are not distracted by objects in the home so they can see the home itself. If the cardboard furniture is used, that’s all buyers will be talking about when referring to this home – “They used CARDBOARD furniture!” It would be known as the cardboard furniture home. I don’t think the home would be taken seriously by buyers.
